Mustafah Muhammad

Mustafah Muhammad is a dedicated motivational speaker and the founder of S.E.L.F. (Self-Elevation Lasts Forever). Originally from Newport News, VA, Mustafah’s mission is rooted in a profound personal transformation. After serving 15 years in federal prison, he chose to dedicate his life to youth violence prevention and community healing.
 
During his incarceration, Mustafah developed programs like “The Philosophy of Change” to help youth offenders navigate mental health awareness and anger management. Today, at 39, he uses his life experience to provide young people with the methods and perspectives needed to become the best versions of themselves. For Mustafah, S.E.L.F. is the living embodiment of his passion and a dream realized through service.
The decisions Mustafah made in his youth has led him to create S.E.L.F. to prevent youth from going down the wrong path.

Marcus Stephens is the founder and executive director of the organization. Originally from New Rochelle, New York, Marcus’s commitment to youth advocacy and community empowerment is rooted in lived experience. After serving seven years in prison, he made a conscious decision to dedicate his life to preventing young people from following the same path. Witnessing firsthand how limited access to guidance, opportunity, and positive role models can derail potential, Marcus founded the organization to be the support he once needed. His work focuses on youth empowerment, violence prevention, financial literacy, and reentry support—providing structure, mentorship, and real-world tools to help individuals make better choices and build sustainable futures.
